Anyone who uses a Windows PC or laptop might have heard about Microsoft Print to PDF. It’s a free pdf converter in Windows 10 that lets you save any web documents or files to PDF format without relying on third-party software. But, of course, like many features in Windows 10, you can also enable or disable this feature based on whether you need it or not.
This article will show you how to turn on or off the Microsoft Print to PDF feature in Windows 10.
Note: Turning off a feature doesn’t uninstall it from your PC.
Method 1: Turn On or Off Microsoft Print to PDF using Windows Features
1. Search for Windows Features on the Start menu and click on Turn Windows features on or off.
2. Once Windows features dialog box pops up, find Microsoft Print to PDF.
3. It’d be On by default, uncheck the tick box if you want it Off, or do vice-versa if you want it On again and click on OK.
4. Wait for Windows to apply the effect and then click on Close.
Method 2: Add or Remove Microsoft Print to PDF feature in Settings
To remove Microsoft Print to PDF feature:
1. Click on Start Menu and then click on Settings.
2. In Settings, click on Devices > Printers & scanners.
3. Under Printers & scanners, select Microsoft Print to PDF, click Remove device, and click Yes.
To Add Microsoft Print to PDF feature:
1. Click on Start Menu and then click on Settings.
2. In Settings, click on Devices > Printers & scanners.
3. Under Printers & scanners, click on Add a printer or scanner.
4. Click on The printer that I want isn’t listed.
5. On Add Printer dialog box, select “Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings” and click Next.
6. Next, under “Use an existing port:” choose PORTPROMPT: (Local Port) from the drop-down.
7. Select Microsoft as a Manufacturer, select Microsoft Print to PDF in the printers list, and click Next.
8. Click Next on the Type a printer name.
9. Click Finish.
Note: If you can’t find Microsoft Print to PDF in the printers list, try clicking on the Windows Update button on the Add Printer dialog box.
If that doesn’t work, then follow the below steps:
1. Open the Run dialog box, type in the command printui.exe /s, and click OK.
2. In Print Server Properties, click on Drivers.
3. Then select Microsoft Print to PDF and click Remove.
4. Now select Remove driver only on the pop-up and click OK.
5. Click the Windows Update button once again, and Microsoft Print to PDF should be in the printers list.
Method 3: Add or Remove Microsoft Print to PDF feature in Command Prompt
Run Command Prompt as Administrator.
a) To remove Microsoft Print to PDF, put the following command in the Command Prompt and hit Enter.
dism /Online /Disable-Feature /FeatureName:"Printing-PrintToPDFServices-Features" /NoRestart
b) To add Microsoft Print to PDF, put the following command in the Command Prompt and hit Enter.
dism /Online /Enable-Feature /FeatureName:"Printing-PrintToPDFServices-Features" /NoRestart
